Effective January 1, 2024, Maine is transitioning from a closed primary system to a semi-open primary. This means that unenrolled voters can now participate in the Presidential Primary. Unenrolled voters may chose to vote in one party's primary; voters enrolled in a party may only vote in that party's primary. Reminder - a voter must remain in a party for 3 months before changing parties or unenrolling. Voters must change parties or unenroll at least 15 days before the primary in order to be eligible to vote in the primary. Voter registration forms to change party status or unenroll are available at the clerk's office.
All absentee ballots must be returned no later than 8 pm on Tuesday, March 5, 2024.
Winthrop residents can register to vote on Election Day. The polls are open from 8:00 a.m. - 8:00 p.m., LOCATION - Winthrop Town Office, All Purpose Room, 17 Highland Ave.
