Volunteers sought for Village Revitalization Committee

Village Revitalization Committee

The Town of Winthrop is seeking volunteers to serve on the newly created Village Revitalization Committee.

The committee’s charge is threefold:

  1. To engage the community and work with Town staff in reviewing and updating Winthrop’s Downtown Revitalization Plan. The plan is meant to focus and guide revitalization efforts, and to ensure eligibility for federal, state and philanthropic grants.
  2. To advise the Town Council on initiatives and efforts that will advance the goal of making Winthrop’s village an inviting and thriving community-gathering place. This will include offering recommendations related to branding/promotion, downtown design and aesthetics, economic development, housing, land use, recreation, infrastructure, accessibility, preservation, etc.
  3. To recruit volunteers to aid in revitalization initiatives.

The committee will also propose a village vision statement to the Town Council.

The Village Revitalization Committee will be a standing committee comprised of up to 10 citizens who applied to serve on the committee, were recommended by the Town Council’s Appointments Committee and are confirmed by the Council. The Council will seek to include as many of the following constituencies as possible on the committee: small business owner, downtown property owner and/or resident, houses of worship, education, real estate, banking, culture and arts, agriculture, public safety, and medical care. The Council will also seek a demographically diverse membership, e.g. parents, seniors, childless young adults, etc.
