Winthrop Conservation Commission member vacancies

board vacancies

The Town of Winthrop is in search of residents to serve on the Conservation Commission. If you have an interest in Winthrop’s open areas and natural resources, please consider joining.

The Winthrop Conservation Commission functions as an advisory committee to the Town Council on such matters as management of the Mt. Pisgah Community Conservation Area, various projects involving land acquisition, and indexing of open areas. In addition, it also researches and coordinates, along with the Planning Board, local land access and other conservation activities. More details on the commission can be found on the Town’s website: winthropmaine.org/conservation-commission

Recent activities have resulted in the development of Invasive Plant Management Plans for the Mount Pisgah Community Conservation Area and the town land surrounding the high school and middle school. Work continues to be done to control the spread of invasive plants on these sites. The commission welcomes discussion and recommendations for other activities within the scope of defined duties.

Members are appointed by the Winthrop Town Council, serving three-year terms each. Regular meetings are usually held once each month on the second Monday at 6:30 pm at the Town Office, 17 Highland Avenue.

If you are interested in serving the Winthrop Community as a Conservation Commission member, please fill out this board/committee application, also available at the Town Office or on the Town website - winthropmaine.org/town-clerk and return to dnichols@winthropmaine.org.
