Police monitoring Mount Pisgah following vandalism

The Winthrop Police Department is actively monitoring the Mount Pisgah Community Conservation Area after vandals destroyed two informational signs and spray-painted graffiti on the area’s fire tower.

One of the signs was atop Mount Pisgah and identified the lakes and distant mountains. The other was along the Blueberry Trail and offered information about the property’s history and the harvesting of wild blueberries. Both signs were ripped from their posts and destroyed.

In addition, the tower has repeatedly been the target of graffiti, including obscenities.

As a reminder, camping and campfires are prohibited on the property. If you see suspicious activity on the property, please report it to the police. Violators will be prosecuted.

Please help protect this popular and valuable community resource.
