March 5, 2024 Presidential Primary Election - Absentee Ballot Request Applications now available

meeting date

Effective January 1, 2024, Maine is transitioning from a closed primary system to a semi-open primary. This means that unenrolled voters can now participate in the Presidential Primary. Unenrolled voters may chose to vote in one party's primary; voters enrolled in a party may only vote in that party's primary. Reminder - a voter must remain in a party for 3 months before changing parties or unenrolling. Voters must change parties or unenroll at least 15 days before the primary in order to be eligible to vote in the primary. Voter registration forms to change party status or unenroll are available at the clerk's office.

Absentee Ballot Request Applications are now available. You may also request your ballot electronically through the State Website here. The application has been updated to accomodate the new semi-open primary requirements.  All requested absentee ballots will be mailed out 30 days prior to the election.

Winthrop residents can register to vote on Election Day. FMI on how to register, visit the clerk's page or the State Website here. The polls are open from 8:00 a.m. - 8:00 p.m., LOCATION - Winthrop Town Office, All Purpose Room, 17 Highland Ave.
