Auction of surplus items raises $3K

The Town of Winthrop's silent auction of surplus items on Dec. 3 generated $3,014 in revenue that will be appropriated for the purchase of Public Works equipment. The highest price paid for any item was $1,850 for a 6-by-6 all-terrain vehicle, including tracks and other accessories. Other items sold included two safes, two sections of docks, a dog kennel, a canoe, old ballot boxes and a cement mixer. Of the dozens of bicycles impounded by the Police Department, only one sold -- for $1.

Unsold items will be disposed of.

The Town of Winthrop greatly appreciates everyone who participated. Moving forward, the Town will seek more frequent opportunities to offer surplus items, including vehicles, for public sale. Each of those sales will be publicized on the Town's website and on its Facebook page
