Ambulance Chief Dovinsky announces retirement

Ambulance Chief John Dovinsky has announced his retirement after 29 years of leading the Winthrop Ambulance Service. In a message to the WAS staff, Chief Dovinsky wrote, “Serving as your chief has been an honor and a pleasure, and I am proud to represent such a dedicated group of professionals. Thank you for your service to the citizens in our seven communities. Because our team is so talented, I step away knowing the future of the service is bright.”

Chief Dovinsky will spend the coming months crafting an exhaustive manual detailing roles, responsibilities and operating procedures of the Ambulance Chief. The guide will serve as a transitional tool and manual for the next Chief. To allow Chief Dovinsky to focus on that task, Deputy Chief Aaron Bostel will lead the department in the interim and until the next Chief is hired.
