The Town Council will hear about the update to the Town's 2010 Comprehensive Plan when it meets at 7 p.m. Monday, Aug. 7, at the Town Office, 17 Highland Ave. The full agenda, with links to background materials, is posted below. The Comprehensive Plan was adopted by voters in 2010. Like that document, the update will serve as a roadmap of how citizens would like to see Winthrop develop in areas such as housing, economic development, future land use, preservation of natural resources, recreation and transportation by providing recommendations on how to achieve goals in each of those areas. Goals will be accompanied by policies and strategies, and notations of the responsible parties for pursuing those recommendations. The update is a collaborative effort involving the Comprehensive Plan Committee, the Kennebec Valley Council of Governments and Town staff. The update's community profile is posted at this link; drafts of other chapters will be posted on this website in the coming weeks.
In addition to discussing the Comprehensive Plan update, the Council will talk about the highest priorities it wishes staff to be pursuing and will consider accepting an easement related to the athletic complex under construction behind Winthrop Grade School.
