Welcome To Winthrop

Where We Play Outside

The Green Committee meets every 2nd and 4th Tuesdays at 6 p.m. at the Town Office.  All are welcome.

Winthrop Green Committee

The Winthrop Green Committee was formed in April, 2009. The original group brainstormed a long list of areas the committee may choose to address.

We have worked on reducing the energy use of the town and schools. We reduced the power used by beverage vending machines. We have gotten a baseline of energy used by town facilities. We  have won a grant to install more than 15Kw of solar panels on the high school roof which will save almost $3000 in electric bills annually and avert tons of carbon release into the atmosphere.

We have initiated a study to explore the use of the town-owned dam to generate power for the town. We are working on plans to help all Winthrop businesses and residents save money and power.

This year we are working on sustainability and local foods. There will be a number of Earth Day events in our "Earth Week". Stay tuned to the Town Calendar as these events are scheduled.
